The U16s have targeted the Plate competition as one to win and got off to the best
possible start with an emphatic victory at the community field on Saturday. A nightmare
of a start saw Clerihan a goal down after a minute with really sloppy play punished to the
full by a grateful Vee Rovers outfit. However , this Clerihan side has a bit of character
and gradually worked themselves into the game , culminating in an equaliser from Reno
Roche just before half-time. James Maher bundled the ball to the net early in the second
half to give Clerihan the lead and Brendan Byrne came off the bench to make the game
safe with a third goal. Once again , the foundation for the victory was laid by the dynamic
midfield duo of Rory Maher and Rhys McMorrow and the rest responded to great effect.
However , some hairy defending saw Liam Powell come to Clerihan’s rescue on a
number of occasions with fine saves and this is one aspect of the display that will have to
be addressed if further progress is to be made in this competition.

A heavy home defeat to a really strong St Kevins side saw the u14s slip further down the
league table. The first half was well contested with Clerihan matching the league leaders
in all departments. However , with half-time fast approaching , the visitors struck for
two goals that knocked the heart out of the Clerihan lads. The second half saw St Kevins
consolidate their victory with another couple of goals to put a flattering look on the
scoreboard. Sean Maher was the outstanding player for the home side on the day while
Jack Burke looked a real threat when released from his defensive duties.

The U12s followed up their recent victory over league leaders Cahir Park with an
excellent display in Tipperary town on Saturday. Clerihan dominated this game from start
to finish and better finishing would have resulted in a far more comfortable victory. As
it was , it took a moment of magic from Seamus McMahon early in the second half to
secure the three points as he volleyed an unstoppable effort to the net from the edge of
the penalty area. Clerihan hit the crossbar twice and Sean Cotter, Callum Meagher and
Riain Quigley all came close to extending the advantage. However , the victory has given
this Clerihan side a really good chance of a high league finishing position.
