Clerihan (Irish: Baile Uí Chléireacháin) is a village in South Tipperary, Ireland. It is also a civil parish in the barony of Iffa and Offa East. It is approximately 8.5 kilometres north of Clonmel. Its name comes from the Irish meaning O’Clerahan’s town. It is a rapidly growing village and the population of Clerihan increased by over 66% from 2002 to 2006.
The ‘little village’ is situated along the R688 regional road from Cashel to Clonmel. Clerihan is 8 kilometres north of the N24 road which leads to Waterford the closest city to Clerihan which is approximately 56 kilometres from the village.
The village is a thriving centre of activity that supports social and sporting outlets.
Clerihan has a GAA club, several soccer clubs and other sporting associations. The village is rightly proud of the Clerihan Community Park or the New Field as it is locally known.
This new development, set in 16 acres boasts a soccer pitch, a GAA pitch, a training pitch, a state of the art all weather pitch and a walking track. Development of this facility has being in the main paid for by the local community with some grant aid support from Tipperary County Council and others.
As of November 2011, work has just finished on a new surface for the walking track, ball retention nets, and public lighting.
The village also has a primary school, parish church, a community hall, basketball and tennis courts. Dance classes, basketball, cards, volleyball and more all take place in the community hall or the school hall.
Local businesses include a shop, pub, a hairdresser and a take-away.
Please remember to support our work and buy a lotto ticket. Tickets are available in Jim’s Convenience Store, the Village Grill or from a Committee member.
