Clerihan U14 girls v Killenaule

Last Tuesday evening the girls traveled to Killenaule for a battle with the locals, Clerihan quickly opened the score with a superb goal from Ciara Laste, Hollie Corcoran and Eileen Flannery battled like true warriors in centre field to keep the ball pushed up front to where Amy Higgins blasted home a goal.

Eileen scored three points and Emma Browne also secured three points putting Clerihan 2-6 to 0-0 score at the half time whistle.  Killenaule were not going to take this lying down and came out with huge fighting spirit in the second half where they quickly snatched a goal, they fought on tirelessly and followed up with goal number two. The tables were about to turn as Lisa Walsh, Kate Corcoran and Mairead O’Donnell closed up the back line and Clerihan took control again with Emily White and Clodah Mc Givern putting in a huge effort to keep the ball secure.

Eileen Flannery secured a goal followed by a point from Ciara Laste and this was enough for victory and the final score was 3-7 to 2-0 and credit is due to Killenaule for a fantastic game.

Well done to all our girls and keep working hard.

The ladies club would like to thank everyone who helped out and contributed to the bag pack in SuperValu last Saturday. It was great to see such good support for the club.

Clerihan U12’s V Kilsheelan

Clerihan entertained Kilsheelan in the u12 championship last Friday. Clerihan knew they were in a battle from the start with the visitors kicking some long range points but the home side goaled with Cian Mullane. The sides went in at half time sharing the spoils Clerihan 1-3 to Kilsheelan 0-6.

The start of the second half saw the sides exchange points. Cian Mullane with a goal and a point made it 2-5 to 0-8. Kilsheelan scored another point and that was the nearest that they got to Clerihan as the home side home side kicked on. A further point from Cian Mullane, two goals from the tricky Liam McGrath and a point from Rian Quigley saw Clerihan run out 6-7 to 0-9 winners.

This scoreline did not reflect the contribution that the excellent Kilsheelan made to the game. However the home side can be proud at the way that they stuck to their task. Cian Mullane was excellent for Clerihan and Liam McGrath gave the Kilsheelan back line plenty to think about. Rian Quigley worked hard throughout the game. Callum Maher was steady at the back and John Mulcahy was alert when called into action in goal. The scorers for Clerihan were Liam McGrath 3-2,Cian Mullane 3-4 and Rian Quigley 0-1. Thanks to Kilsheelan for a great game.

A word of thanks to all of our supporters who cheered the team on. Well done to the 12’s and their coaches.

Clerihan U14’s V Ballingarry

Ballingarry made the trip to Clerihan on Monday evening and put pressure on the home side right from the start with two quick goals but Clerihan were not to be a walk over and they proved this with some some great goal keeping from Dean Mc Murrow and pressure from the full backs Aidan Lyons, Luke Boyle and Ben Fahey curtailed Ballingarry advance.

Half backs Evan Corcoran, Conor Horan and Alan O Donnell also featured well. Jack Burke, Luke Hahessy and Cathal Fogarty kicked some great balls up front for scores from Billy Norris 2-1 , Alan O’ Donnell 0-1 , Shane Hickey 0-1 and Luke Boyle up front for the second half secured 1-0.

Clerihan missed some great chances but it was Ballingarry who came out on top, and well done to all the lads who really put their heart into the game.

Clerihan U14 girls V Fethard

A blustery Tuesday evening saw Clerihan take on the visitors Fethard in what can be described as tough playing conditions,  with strong cross winds , hail stones and rain. It was great to see both teams put in such a good effort . Clerihan started with great determination and a super goal from Ciara Laste put them ahead. This was followed up with a second goal from Eileen Flannery and Clerihan sailed ahead.

They began to lose concentration just before half time and Fethard sneaked a goal putting the half time score at 2-1 to Clerihan. Fethard came out in the second half and quickly equalled the score.

The hard working  Eileen Flannery secured her second goal of the day  putting the home side back in front. Conditions began to deteriorate and both teams fought on bravely and Fethard snatched a third just before the final whistle putting the full time score at 3 goals each. Well done to all the girls considering the weather they endured and keep up the good work.

Clerihan U16’s V Moyle Rovers

Clerihan U16’s V Moyle Rovers

We played Moyle Rovers in the third round of the championship in Monroe Park on Thursday night last, We got off to a great start with a goal from James Maher and a well taken point from Rhys McMorrow in the first five minutes.

Clerihan started to dominate in most areas of the field and used the ball cleverly. Joe Ryan scored our second goal and points from Danny Hogan, Rory Maher, and Sean Hahessy had us well in command heading for the break. Moyle rovers opened their account with a well take point and followed it up with a great goal to stay in contention, Just before the break Andrew O Regan bagged our third goal to leave the score 3-4 to 1-1 at half time.

We started the second half where we left off with two brilliant points from Rory Maher and one from Rhys McMorrow. Matthew Ryan replaced Joe Ryan and was quick to make his mark with a point from close range. From the kick out Moyle Rovers move the ball quickly up the field and Clerihan backs got caught off their guard and Rovers netted their second goal. Again Clerihan responded well with a second point from Danny Hogan and a goal from the hard working Arron Lawrence. The home side scored a consolation goal but this was cancelled out with our fifth goal from Luke Hyland.

As a team we worked very hard but it goes without saying some worked harder than others, while our forwards clocked up a nice score our defenders were very busy. Andrew O Donnell, Adam Fahy and Sean Hahessy who played very well. This was a great results over a great Club like Moyle Rovers and we will cherish a victory any time we meet.

Well done to all who took part but remember lads we have nothing won yet.
