Best of luck to our minor girls in their county final at the weekend. It’s a great achievement for their first year together. Texts will go out once we know the venue so come and support them.

Our minor girls team had an excellent win on Sunday against Upperchurch to put them into the county final which is a huge success for the club considering it’s the first ever minor  girls team from Clerihan.  The girls got off to a good start going 2 points up but Upperchurch were quick to respond and closed the gap. Clerihan showed some super ball play and responded brilliantly to the pressure. They were neck in neck coming up to the half time whistle and 2 quick goals to Upperchurch gave them the lead and Clerihan trailed 1-5 to 2-4. Clerihan came out blazing in the second half and responded with a volley of points but found it tough  to hold onto the lead, wind and rain couldn’t hamper the spirit of this game  as Upperchurch heaped on the pressure.
The full time whistle loomed and Clerihan 2 points down showed some great strength and pulled out all the stops to snatch a draw, full time 3-13 to 6-4. Extra time beckoned and Clerihan went out wet and cold but they dug deep to heap the pressure on their opponents with a quick goal and point giving them the edge. Upperchurch could only manage 2 points but Clerihan followed this up with an excellent goal and it looked like victory was theirs, the last 2 minutes seemed like an eternity as Upperchurch piled on the pressure grasping at every opportunity they could but it was all in vain. As the final whistle sounded and Clerihan came out on top after a super game worthy of a spot in Semple stadium. Final score 5-15 to 6-6. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all the girls for the brilliant effort they put in to put them into the final and Paddy Murphy for all the hard work behind the scenes , well done to you all and the scorers were Eilleen Flannery, Emer Lyons, Elaine Butler and Rachel Hennessey  also in the squad Hollie Corcoran, Meadbh Corr, Amy Gillman, Aoife Conway, Kate Cooney, Aishling Barry, Mairead Browne , Mairead O Donnell, Molly Moclair, Aisling Ryan and Roisin Mulcahy.

Well done to Upperchurch who gave us a game to remember but there can be only one winner.
