U13A LEAGUE CLERIHAN 2 ST. MICHAELS 0

The U13s will be top of their league at Christmas following a hard-earned victory
over St. Michaels at the community field on Saturday. There was a hectic opening to
this game as Clerihan roared into the attack and were awarded a penalty within three
minutes. However , Shane Hickey’s effort was a bit too central and was well saved by
the goalkeeper. It only took Clerihan another minute to take the lead as Liam McGrath ,
who had an excellent game on the right flank , drilled a shot to the net from just inside
the penalty area. St. Michaels responded strongly but lacked a cutting edge in front of
goal and the Clerihan defence coped easily with David O’Brien particularly impressive
with his strength in the tackle. The second half was quite even until Danny O’Regan
rediscovered his goalscoring touch to make the points safe for Clerihan. After a shaky
start to their season , the lads seem to have got their act together and , hopefully , can
push on when the league resumes after the Christmas break.

U13B LEAGUE CAHIR PARK 1 CLERIHAN 0

Despite producing their best display of the season , the u13Bs went down to a solitary
goal defeat at Cahir Park on Saturday. Clerihan made all the early running and some
fine approach play deserved a goal but there was a lack of composure at the vital time .
At the other end , Cathal Ryan was having a stormer in defence while goalkeeper
Michael Cleary was alert to every ball over the top and dealt capably with everything.
As the half-time break loomed, Clerihan shot themselves in the foot. A foul throw
handed possession back to Cahir in a dangerous area and an innocuous cross was poorly
defended to allow an attacker bundle the ball over the line , courtesy of a deflection. To
their credit , Clerihan dominated the second half with the main threat coming from the
wings where both Seamus McMahon and Daragh Bolger were outstanding. Christopher
Brabston and Aaron Doyle-O’Donnell ran themselves into the ground in midfield in an
effort to rescue matters while Kevin Freier came up from the back late on to add more
power to a tiring attack. However , it was not to be and the hope is that the new year will
see a continuation of the improved form and some results to go with same
